Japanese (LOTE) Centre

​​​​​The Japanese/Languages Other than English (LOTE) department has its own modern, fully equipped classroom and is located on the Western campus of Redcliffe State High School.

The Language Learning Facilities at Redcliffe High are second to none with students having access to a new air-conditioned language centre including:

  • a state of the art classroom that was specifically built for LOTE studies
  • data projector with built in surround sound
  • interactive SMART Board with Japanese script capability
  • large flat screen television connected to a DVD recorder loaded with authentic Japanese resources
  • Japanese-style meeting room - tatami (たたみ・畳) room; complete with a traditional reed mat flooring and low tables and pillows for comfort looking onto a Japanese viewing garden. It’s the ideal space for self-study or visiting guests
  • extensive library of textbooks, dictionaries and other reading materials including manga and Japanese literature
  • technology centre ideal for student use to engage in Distance Education and self-study language activities
  • a wirelessly-connected laptop computer pod
  • sound-proof chat space for conversation practice and recording
  •  a 30-seat fully-interactive, digital language learning laboratory (just like those at university) 
  • NHK Satellite TV beamed directly from Japan into the classroom.

Join our Biennial Japan Trip. We travel to Japan in the September school holidays for 2 weeks every 2 years to experience Japanese culture and customs and of course practise using our Japanese! We travel in odd-numbered years, so start saving so that you can join us!
