Research shows that parental involvement in a child’s education leads to better outcomes for students. Parents have major effects in terms of encouragement and expectations that they communicate to their children.
Parental aspirations and expectations for their child’s education has a strong relationship with educational achievement. Parents and schools also need to work in partnership to make these expectations appropriately high and challenging (Hattie, 'Visible Learning', 2009).
Parental involvement could include contacting and communicating with teachers, helping children understand the deadlines contained in the subject Unit Outlines and attending school events such as Information Nights and Parent/Teacher interviews.
