The study of mathematics at Redcliffe State High School prepares learners for the entire range of employment opportunities that depend on some knowledge of mathematics, from biomedical engineering to trade and commerce.

Students in Years 7-10 are taught as per the Australian Curriculum. Further information on the year appropriate achievement standards can be found on the Australian Curriculum Website.

Students in Years 11-12 have the choice of Essential Mathematics, General Mathematics or Mathematical Methods. Students studying Mathematical Methods also have an additional option of studying the elective subject, Specialist Mathematics. Information on these subjects is provided to students in Year 10. Further information can be found on the QCAA website.

Mathspace

All students at Redcliffe SHS use the Mathspace program as their core resource. Mathspace gives students access to a range of digital textbooks with varying levels of difficulty. The program also allows for personalised learning, as teachers are able to set custom tasks for students to complete, based on the students' individual learning needs. Teachers are provided with a range of real-time student data from the program, giving them an insight into how students are progressing.

Students are given step-by-step feedback on their work, scaffolded support through question hints and videos to watch if they are stuck on a problem. Students are able to access the Mathspace program through their device as a part of the BYOD program, or at home using any of their personal devices.

Microsoft Forms

Students complete formative quizzes through the Microsoft Forms program in Mathematics. They complete these quizzes under exam conditions in the classroom environment. Students access the link to the quiz, provided by their teacher, through their device as part of the BYOD program. The formative quizzes help determine students progress with their learning, inform our intervention and help us to provide personalised learning to all students.

Competitions

All Redcliffe State High School students have the opportunity to participate in the annual Australian Mathematics Competition. Students who are excelling in Mathematics also have the opportunity to participate in the APSMO Mathematics Olympiad.
