Redcliffe State High School Launches 2026 Year 12 Academic Mentoring Program
Redcliffe State High School is proud to relaunch its Academic Mentoring Program for 2026, supporting Year 12 ATAR-eligible students as they navigate one of the most important years of their schooling journey.
Year 12 is a significant milestone, with students balancing academic demands alongside important decisions about their future pathways. The Academic Mentoring Program provides structured, personalised support to help students build confidence, stay motivated, and set purposeful goals for life beyond school.
Senior teachers at Redcliffe High continue to champion the program, recognising the powerful impact that consistent mentoring can have on both academic achievement and student wellbeing.
Principal Barry Wallett highlighted the value of strong, supportive relationships within the school community.
“Mentors provide guidance, encouragement, and a consistent point of support," Mr Wallett said. “They are not replacements for parents, teachers, or counsellors, but trusted advisors who help students make informed decisions and stay focused throughout their final year."
How the Program Works
Each Year 12 ATAR-eligible student is paired with a mentor, with teachers typically supporting a small group of students. Mentoring sessions are held at least once per term, with flexibility for additional check-ins as needed. Sessions may take place individually or in small groups and are scheduled during designated mentoring weeks to ensure consistency across the cohort.
Students following vocational or applied pathways are also well supported. These students engage in targeted mentoring through their weekly Respect class, where they receive tailored guidance aligned to their individual goals and pathways.
A central feature of the program is the Year 12 Senior Schooling Noticeboard, curated by the school's Industry Liaison Officer. This resource keeps students informed about key opportunities and requirements, including:
- Academic progress and requirements
- QTAC applications and university pathways
- TAFE and vocational opportunities
- Scholarships and career pathways
Mentors use this resource to guide conversations and help students take full advantage of the opportunities available to them. Students can also access this information via Compass, ensuring support is always within reach.
Supporting Every Student to Succeed
Mr Wallett emphasised that the program is designed to empower every student to achieve success on their chosen pathway.
“Our focus is on helping students understand their strengths, build confidence, and make informed decisions about their future," he said. “At Redcliffe State High School, we are committed to ensuring every student graduates with dignity, purpose, and choice."
